History of the Blue Point Fire Department
Nestled between Patchogue and Bayport long island, NY, Blue Point is the jewel of the south shore. Blue Point is the Furthest Southwest hamlet of the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County. Formed in 1890 the Blue Point Fire Department has been a part of the local community from the beginning. Originally a summer destination for NY city dwellers who would travel to the area to enjoy the beaches and large Hotels. The hamlet has grown to become a thriving community with retail, residential and commercial areas. The beaches are still some of the best on the south shore of Long Island with Corey Beach attracting over 10,000 people a season.

Although the large wooden bay front hotels are now gone, destroyed by fires over the years, the town still enjoys a large influx of tourists each season thanks to Blue Points location on the Great South Bay. The BPFD responds to many waters rescues each year as well as structure fires and motor vehicle accidents, and an array of other emergencies. Originally formed in 1890 the BPFD used hand drawn then motorized apparatus in the first years of its existence. Through the years the equipment has changed but not the dedication of its members to helping their community and protecting lives and property.
